HortiMaX technology allows tomato crops to thrive on Turkish Riviera

In Antalya, on the Turkish Riviera so loved by holidaymakers, stands a large-scale glasshouse nursery called 3S-Tarim. VB (Verbakel-Bomkas) was the main contractor in charge of building this 2.7-hectare (6.7 acres) facility, which it completed at the end of 2009.

3S-Terim is owned by Mr Hamdi Ünal, who decided to fit the entire nursery with HortiMaX equipment. The glasshouse facility grows vine tomatoes in rockwool slabs using a hanging gutter system. Haluk Atamal Tarim Otomasyon Sistemleri Ltd, our dealer in Turkey, signed the contract to supply and commission the HortiMaX equipment. This involved installing a complete MultiMa in combination with a FertiMiX 600 fertigation unit. The MultiMa is an advanced environmental computer that enables you to control every aspect of your glasshouse climate, irrigation and energy sources. At 3S-Terim, the MultiMa controls the climate in 4 compartments, a boiler house, an open buffer tank system, dripper units and a Newton Slab Weigher. 

 

The HortiMaX equipment has allowed 3S-Tarim to optimise production and product quality, while minimising energy consumption and water and fertiliser use. Add to this the outstanding after-sales service provided by HortiMaX and Haluk Atamal, along with the know-how required not only during the design and installation phase, but also after the completion of the project and you have a recipe for success. In addition to installing the HortiMaX equipment, dealer Haluk Atamal was responsible for installing all of the electrical systems and wiring for VB. 

Mr Ünal planted the first crops in November 2009 and thanks to his astute choice of business partners and equipment, can now begin harvesting vine tomatoes of the finest quality. Out of a respect for nature, Mr Ünal intends to further reduce his carbon footprint by utilising the latest heating and CO2 enrichment technology. It is a project that he himself has described as ‘declaring war on coal-fired heating systems’.
